So someone told me that a 223/556 is great for deer hunting. Anyone hunt deer with your AR? And rounds do you guys recommend?
I have killed tons of deer with 223. Barnes TSX provides amazing penetration. 75 Grn Tap seems to have been the best for me so far at providing a large wound chanel and sufficient penetration. The 70 grn TSX produced adequate wound channels and I got as much as 28" of penetration
Yep, have used them many times on Kodiak Island Black Tail Deer. They work fine, but its all about shot placement. I've spent lots of time in the northern villages and you see 5.56mm used on Caribou too. Best rounds to use if you must shoot an AR are the bonded bullets and 64gr types. I would check with the folks who hunt hogs and see what they use too.
