| Has anyone ever used a Del-Ton upper? I was considering buying one of their assembled upper receivers for $90. This is my first build so any suggestions are helpful. I want to build piece by piece rather than buying a complete upper. I recently aquired a Superior Arms stripped lower. Opinions on that? |

Welcome aboard... Short answer... If you are just looking for one upper, buying a pre-assembled upper is most likely the way to go since there are necessary specialized tools/ skills to putting together an upper. The tacked threads will help. Del-ton is good people. - AG |
| I'm actually wanting to build a 5.56 and a 7.62x39 upper. Probably use same lower for a while until I can afford another. I am mechanically inclined and love to build stuff so I thought this would be a cool project. I can buy the upper receiver with forward assist and cover for cheap so why bother assembling. Attaching a new barrel to a new upper does worry me slightly but I'm told once I do it the first time it's easy. |
Sounds good... Putting the FA and Dust cover on a stripped upper is not hard... but like you said why bother. You will need a good vise, action block, and armorer's wrench, along with some high temp moly grease to barrel the upper correctly. You want to do some research on 7.62x39 uppers before jumping into it... mags are an issue and crap surplus ammo tends to not run well. YMMV... - AG |
