If I remember correctly the xps/exps3-2 is set up with dots witch would be less clutter and give you a 50yd-200yd zero with the top dot and 500yd zero with the bottom dot. I have a xps2-2 with a 3x mag and it works well for the distances you are looking to shoot. To each their own but for me the 4 dot Eotech is way to cluttered without a mag behind it. Hope this helps

I have the EXPS 3-4 + magnifier combo and think it's a great setup but not ideal for your type of shooting. A variable scope works better for you, especially since you're shooting the good stuff (77gr).  There a ton to choose from so check out that 1-4x, 1-6x thread.

I am very happy with my E-XPS3 single dot and G33.  I was surprised at how versatile the setup was, the eye relief was better, and how damn crisp the glass was.  Very nice peice.

A 1-4 may be a better choice, but after using this combo, I don't think I'd take any 1-4 out there over it.  1-6, yes....there is a benefit to that.

If the majority of your shooting is "off-hand position at ranges of about 5-50 yards" i'd go with the exps3-0. I have limited experience with the eotech but have heard many say that the reticle gets to cluttered with more than one dot for this kind of shooting, plus if you ever decide to sell it there's a much larger market for the 3-0 than the others.

Due to their inherent nature (i.e. magnification), you're always going to have a little fisheye at the edges at 1x for a 1-4x scope.  And your acclimation and training with an optic plays a huge part as well. I've run my TR24 against my red dot and the times were the same. Have you tried the TR24?  Run it out a little further on the rail/scope mount so there's a smaller chance of scope shadow and use target focus, just like you do with your red dot. See if that helps.
