I recently purchased a DPMS upper with a 16" stainless barrel and free floating handguard. How do you remove the handguard? I know that the gas block has to be loosened and the gas tube pulled out, what then, I contaced DPMS and they said take it to a gunsmith. Well i work on my own guns but don't want to screw it up trying to take it apart. Perhaps there is printed information available, I have the DPMS multi wrench. Please advise, thank you in advance.

If you have the round aluminum tube, you are going to want a strap wrench and a DPMS freefloat wrench as well.
The two short pins on your DPMS combo wrench are likely going to jump out of the freefloat tube's barrel nut.
The freefloat wrench has longer pins that fix this.

Now, with your receiver clamped in a action block, use the strap wrench on the freefloat tube to break the front section off of the rear (barrel nut) section
Looking at the handguard, you should see a seam in the handguard about 1.5" forward from the receiver.
The front section simply unthreads.
With the front section gone, you have easy access to the holes in the rear section.
The gas tube obvoulsly has to be out of the way.
Use the freefloat wrench to break the barrel nut loose.
That's all there is to it...
