| I have a SEI vortex without a hole drilled in it. I need to pin it on a barrel. It is hardened steel and I can not drill it with my normal drill bits. Any input on how to drill it or should I just sell it and get a Vortex with the hole in it already? Thanks in advance. |
Wat? www.pkfirearms.com/store/get_items.aspx?type=0&term=62 ![]() The Vortex is made from 8620 alloy steel 35-38 on the Rockwell C scale. Tough stuff. You might be able to cut it with a cobalt bit. I don't know. I'll ask around the shop. |

Sorry never had any issues drilling the ones on my M4s, yes they are hard, but then having the proper tools always makes things easier. (drill press and quality selection of bits) Plus most folks wanting an M4 w/ perm FS buy them that way don't they?? (thought I was the only guy that preferred doing this type work myself) mike ps - as all but the last two of my Vortex FS were bought from SEI and I never saw that as option sold there I suspect, as noted above, it's relatively new product |
