Need some help here, can anyone make a good suggestion on a set of electronic earmuffs. I'm not looking to spend a fortune on them i'm just looking for something that gets the job done.

Impacts, made by H Leigh.  I think thats who makes them, had no luck with Peltors they kept breaking.  The Impacts are about $30 cheaper also.

I'm having the same luck with my Peltor's.  At first I thought it was just a one time thing but this will be their third trip back for repairs.  Not reliable!  When they work they work great!  But I have not had good luck with my Peltors.

I would recommend MSA Sordin headsets.  A little more pricey but more reliable!!

I have a pair of Peltor's that I got almost 7 years ago.  I have abused them and even had a battery leak acid in them.  They still function just as good as they did new.  Maybe their new stuff isn't up to snuff, I dunno.  I love these though.

That's unfortunate about the Peltors.  I have some 6s that have been worn through a bunch of courses, in desert sun/sweat, rain, and even sleet.  All they've needed are new batteries.  Guess I lucked out.

MSA Supremes FTW.  The style with the spring behind the ears versus over the top is much more comfortable.

Have any of you tried those hellaciously expensive EAR Mini Canal electronic in the ear devices?

I'm thinking of saving my pennies for a set, since they wouldn't interfere with cheek weld as badly as electronic muffs do.  Even with the cutouts on the bottom or the cups turned upside-down, my Peltors still annoy me to the point that I put a passive plug in my shooting ear and dislodge the muff enough to allow better weld.

+2 for Howard Leights....usually @ 59.99 or sometimes on sale @ 49.99 at Midway, Cabelas etc.

I have a pair of the E.A.R. Digital Advantage, and I would say that I use my MSA Supremes at least 90% of the time when shooting unsuppressed.  The E.A.R.s are great for sporting clays, handguns outdoors, hunting, or suppressed shooting, but do not provide sufficient sound attenuation IMHO for unsuppressed carbines or rifles, particularly if there is any structure nearby.  Then again, some folks find foam plugs alone to be sufficient in such circumstances, which I don't.  The E.A.R.s also eat batteries fairly quickly, but at least replacements are cheap.

The outer ear is a big sound antenna, and muffs are the only way to go when things are really loud.  YMMV

Considering how expensive the E.A.R.s are, the $$$ would seem to have been better spent elsewhere, but they are nice to have for the above mentioned limited applications.

I use Peltor 6s'. My GF bought them for me last Christmas, I've only used 'em about a dozen times (no time to shoot), but they get thrown around in my range bag and my closet and they still work just fine. I like them a lot, well worth $60 IMO. I see a lot of other guys running the same at the range and in Tac videos.

I have no experience with other electronic earpro.

I was skeptical at first, but the Howard Leight OD green tactical model has served me well for three years now. I even bought another pair and stashed it in my bedside drawer for bump in the night scenarios.

Previously, I had a set of spendier Peltors that died within two years. Pretty lame in my opinion. Its hard for me to justify spending any more than what a set of Howard Leights costs when they deliver great performance.

Thanks much. You saved me some $$. How do you find the MSA as far as interfering with a buttstock cheek weld?

My wife also has a pair of E.A.R. Digital Advantage; one time when we were shooting rifles from benches with a roof over them, her comment was, "these things aren't worth a $hit!"  Like I posted earlier, they work great for appropriate applications, not so well for the wrong applications.  $900 a pair is pretty steep considering the limitations, but shotgunners seem to love them.

As far as the MSA's, the only time that I get interference with the stock is when shooting steeply downhill.  YMMV  One complaint that I have with the "standard" spring-over-the-head version is that there is a "pressure point" at about 1030 for me; it can get a bit annoying after a few hours, even when wearing a ball cap underneath.  I was speaking with a distributer not too long ago, and he said that it was not the first time that he had heard of this issue.

At SHOT the year before last, I tried on the style with the spring behind the head and a soft strap over the top of the head; they were MUCH more comfortable.  I am just about to purchase another set of MSA's with two-way comms capability, and they will most definitely be of this configuration.

The over the head spring style works fine with my MICH helmet using a split crown pad, but does not work well for a friend using his PASGT.

I use a set of 7 year old Peltor ComTacs. Only had to be rebuilt once.  Sweat killed one ear.

Behinde the ear models for the shape of my grape, I can neve get a good ear seal.

I use comps so I always double plug. Sometimes  less than ideal shooting postions the stock will break the ear seal.
