[ARCHIVED THREAD] - end cap - function or looks

I ordered a YHM forearm that I plan to add to my A3M4 flat top upper with the standard A2 style front sight. After I place the order I realized that I could have added the end cap to the order. My question is if the end cap is just for looks or does it serve a real function and if it be seen with the A2 front sight in front of it or does it cover most of it? I'm thinking of ordering it seperately if I need it or it is a waste of money??

I didn't order one for a rifle I'm building for my brother in-law.

I just put the round carbine handguard cap back on and tightened everything down to fill in the gaping holes around the barrel from the front.

the YHM handguard I ordered is a free floating one. Can I still reuse the original cap? Sorry but new to this - my first build...

Yep, the original cap won't touch the FF handguard at all.
