Looks good the controls on the side are definitely and ergonomic improvement. However, the dual ARMS mounts still require too much rail space to when mounting it to the top of the receiver. With the dual levers both mounted on the receiver there will not be room for both the magnifier and the BUIS. Personally, I'd like to see a single lever LaRue mount solution. This will allow you to mount the EOTech furhter forward on the receiver with the battery compartment hanging over the barrel nut without having to partially mount the the sight to the handguard rail. Also, unless something has changed, last I heard the 557 will use AA batteries and will not use ARMS mounts. The pics above appear to be a modified 553 which uses CR123 batteries. |
| from what i gathered yohimbo they will still use arms mounts. Supposedly the reason to this is because some outside third party company looked at what was causing the arms mount issues in alot of rifles and came up with a fix. But as you stated i for one would prefer an larue lever over an arms pos any day. |

I have a 557 and a 4x all reay i have been testing. it uses the AA has side control adj. it uese the thumb screw. no levers. here is my last review of it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have been running a Pre-production 557 and 4x now for about 2 weeks. the 557 has the 600yd bdc. The 557 has side mounted on/off and nv controls buttons that are recessed into the housing to allow the 4x to mount flush with 557 itself I have currently about 600 rounds down range on this unit(not enough yet for a real test but its getting there), some observations as follows would like to see a captured battery compartment. current on the 553 has this. ggg accucam lever will not work on the 557 per talking with Eotech when i asked about that. not that its needed.(larue lever would be nice.) Buttons should be a bit larger or have more surface area to them( my ham hands (thanks Harv) in and out of gloves have issues using them in there recessed housing. the 557 has a new style shape to allow it to clear the D ring and allow the unit and magnfier to be on the upper receiver and not have to bridge the hand guards and upper receiver it self. the reticule is typical Eotech with the addition of 4 dots total in a vertical line. in range drills the a extra dots have little effect on shooting out to 0-100yds when the 4x is added the reticule is very well defined and sharp and clear and the dots are easily seen and there separation is apparent each bdc dot is very sharp and clean. i have only shot it out to 300yds. the 4x is very crisp and using a dual prism lens as you look through the eyepiece of the 4x you notice right away that the view is equal to the window of the Eotech not round. the 4x is very robust feeling and weighs more than the aimpoint 3x i should have exact difference this weak in weight. OAL of the 557 and the 4x is equal to the aimpoint and its 3x brother in larue mounts. a built in set of larue levers would be a huge improvement as well. but as stated earlier Eotech is hearing a lot of input and doing something about it. April release date i have the latest most current vrsion at this time. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=307635&page=3 |

I played with them at SHOT SHOW and we have them on order. Form what I saw I liked. We order them with the magnifiers. Probably for the Army....they want all AAs (like the Aimpoint M4), whereas Socom wants 123s (EO 553)...Don't as me what they(army) are gonna do about their weaponlights. I'm very glad they did away with the ARMs crap. Hopefully Larue can chime in after it hits the market with a new mount. What i REALLY hope is they don't rape us with the pricing, sadly that looks like what is going to happen. |
Thats what the rep told me at the gun show that I was at last weekend. I also asked him what round was used to calculate the BDC but that he did not know. He also said that the 557 has the same reticle/unit height as the 553 and will put your standard A2 irons in the lower 1/3 without a riser. |

I got one that was one of the demo units at Show to review (still has the round green tag under it). I like very much overall, OTOH there are a few things. It is taller than a standard M2/M68 CCO and much larger than might appear until you actually hold it in your hand. The fact that it is taller is OK in some respects, less in others, I.E. it is hard to use on my Steyr AUG A2, cant seem to hold a good cheekweld with it. The cut out in the front is a very nice feature, it clears easily the delta ring and allows the use of a BUIS (the thing is LONG). It is absolutely not compatible with a KAC RAS II because of the bridge, unless mounted in front of it; and even then, the 557 touches the front sight base. I would really reccomend purchasing the combo 557+4x magnifier, otherwise the 557 is really not much of an improvement vs other Eotech sights if you dont use its specific features studied for the magnifier. The buttons are a bit small, you realize it especially when you try to turn off the sight! All in all it is a very rugged sight and the reticle is outstanding with the 4x, much more than I had expected. I believe the BDC is based on standard SS109 on a M4, not too sure though. I'll try to post pics of it. I also have a Aimponit M4 to compare, more on that after Easter... BTW, have a happy Easter! |

I have been running a 557 for over a month now. After sitting down with eotech the buttons will be changed to allow more contact with the shooters fingers( ie Bigger buttons) there will be no throw levers. on the 557 the units is claibrated for the 62 grain SS109/ round out of a 14.5 inch barrel |
Will this button change take place before the first unit is released to the public? Thanks for clearing up the BDC calibration bullet info BTW |
