| Why do people use them? I mean they say it makes it more easy for a gloved hand but I wear the voodoo Intruder gloves and I have no problem with the normal trigger guard. They seem to have plenty of space. So I want to know why some of you guys like them? |
|
The honest answer for me is I think they look cool. I didn't understand it at first either. I never wear gloves, because if it's that damn cold I am not going shooting.
I didn't understand at all. But the more I kept seeing guns with them on there compared to ones that didn't, I knew I had to have one. It looks much better. I have a question for you.... Why not have one? They are cheap. Look cool. Work as advertized. No downside as far as I can tell. |

For gloves?? The M16/AR can do this.... http://www.shootingillustrated.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/D10666.jpg Yep. And that's a pain in the ass. Flops around. And looks stupid as hell. Just my opinion. Why not have one you don't have to monkey with in the first place? $8 bucks and it's a win-win. |

The only reason I have the MOE trigger guard is because I think it's pretty and I'm vain when it comes to guns. Edit: Also, my lower came with it. |

It makes it harder to actually grip your firearm. For long term use it's a total pain in the ass, which is why the manual actually states that if you are doing extended cold weather operations you should have your armorer remove it. The extended ones usually are just enough to get a gloved finger in there. |

I payed good money for a comfortable grip. That's exactly what I would want to do. I find it easier to just not use that feature, but to each his own. |

Everybody thinks it's such a huge risk. There is absolutely nothing to it if you are half-way mechanically inclined and use the proper tools. I find AR's in general to be super simple. Of course I have worked on stuff my whole life and was a mechanic for a living in the past. Don't buy into the hype. People make it sound like it's a 50/50 chance of breaking one. Only if you don't know what you are doing and are using the wrong tools. Proper roll pin punch and the right size hammer make all the difference. Not punch. Roll pin punch. There is a difference. ETA: Squirt a penetrating lubricant on the roll pin prior to doing the job and let it soak. A few quick raps making sure you have your lower supported and making sure your punch is completely straight will result in them almost jumping out. |

I use the Magpul trigger guard to avoid my girly soft middle finger getting chewed up when supporting one handed.
Replacing it is not hard. I punched it out with a little screwdriver. People try to drive it out in one punch like idiots. Place lower ear on wood or phone book. Give the punch a few light taps to get it moving. Give it a squirt of CLP. Tap it back the opposite direction. Now go back the right direction. Stop every few taps and check to make sure the pin isn't binding and stressing the ears. Don't tap too hard. I used a tiny screwdriver as a pin, a pair of pliers as my hammer/driver, and a sticky pad on my leg for ear support. I like paper best as it supports the ear and allows the pin to still move a bit. Always reuse your own pin though. You know it works, so lightly tap it in and keep checking the opposite ear. |

I use the Magpul trigger guard to avoid my girly soft middle finger getting chewed up when supporting one handed. This is the mean reason I put them on my AR's. I could've just used a "gapper", but the MOE guard isn't much more and it does make the AR wintertime friendly since I live in the northland. |
| Most of the extended/oversized/enhanced guards I've seen fill in between the ears at the front of the grip. This is a Very Good Thing in my opinion, because I get tired of scraping up my middle finger when I hold the rifle only by the grip. These other guards also typically remove the risk of breaking the lower when installing the trigger guard, which is also a Good Thing. |
|
I do not buy into the Barbie Dress-Up aspect of AR ownership except for the trigger guard. Colt revolvers as well as Smith revolvers each have their own proprietary, uniquely shaped trigger guards. By the same token, Magpul has nailed the aftermarket AR trigger guard shape, IMHO. |
| They are useful if you shoot in heavy gloves, which I did allot when I lived in AK, now that I don't I probably won't change another. Flipping the mil-spec gaurd down is stupid easy yes, but its also damn uncomfortable, in all but the heavy issue trigger finger mitts that you can't really feel anything in, as it does not fold flat against an A2 grip. Removing it altogether is not hard or a terribly risky procedure with proper tools. Carrying without a gaurd fully installed is not worth the liability to self and others in most situations for civilians since no one is shooting back. And why would I dick with any of that when I can change it out once and be done? |

Now there are a few LPK's come standard with the Magpul trigger guard. |
