when i went shooting yesterday, i had some problems. the problem was that when i would put in a new mag, and would hit the bolt release, the bolt would only come thru half way, and the round would not go into the chamber, only half way up. i would have to pull the bolt back a little and let the spring force it forward and then it would pick up the round into the chamber. after the first round, it fed perfectly, no jams no nothing. just the first round. of EVERY mag. ihad 9 mags, the mags are all D&H Teflon 30 rounders. the ammo i was using was Ultramax refurbished .223. any ideas?

How will that help his problem?  Did you actually read what he posted?

Doubt its ammo.  What brand is your recoil spring?  Is it new?  It could be wore out but chances are that it just needs broke in.  The carrier might be tight in the upper.  Give it 500 rnds before you start to worry.

everything is brand spanking new, i just got the upper in the beginning of the week and the lower yesterday. i hope its just breaking in problems...

Are you using a carbnin length receiver ext/spring and standard weight buffer or rifle length?

If it is a carbine, try a Wolffe 2X action spring and you also might want to upgrade to a heavier buffer such as a H2.  Additionally, upgrade all your mags with a Magpul enhanced follower.  Lastly, make sure your gun is lubed (you should already know that. )

Go shoot the hell out of it.

All this stuff is inexpensive and worth while even if a rifle is having zero problems.

its a full 20" lenght. i am thinking about those Magpul followers, i have heard nothing but great things about them.

OK.  Get an extra power spring then lube action and shoot.

Try that.

Lube everything. Were the mags brand new and have 30rds in them?

dont waste your money on parts.its the ammo.whenever I use the ultramax reloads I get the same thing.I'll bet if you run anything else in it (jackets only not hollow points)you will not get this again.reloads and hollow points do the same to my dissipator.I'll run 500 rounds of remington 55gr without a failure.if I put any HP or ultra reloads it does that.I can immediately run another 500 of the remington and again no failures.try it you'll see.

Does the problem occur when you load the mag(s) all the way to 30? Have you tried it with a mag loaded two or three rounds less than full capacity?

My line of thought exactly.

i will try not loading them to the max next time. the mags are brand new, dated 7/05. i hope its the ammo. like i said thats the only brand that the store i go to (the only one i know of in the area) has. i dont want to risk ordering ammo into the campus office. do they label on the box that its ammo on the inside if i order from ammo man?

I am no expert at all...but I use nothing but Ultramax reloaded ammo at the range and it functions and cycles perfectly through my Colt MT6400C...it's pretty damn accurate too. I have also used 53 grain Winchester Hollow point and that worked really well too...the hollow points actually get better groups than ultramax 55 grain or any 62 grains ive used for some reason...which i don't get because its a 1/7 twist barrel...but anyway...i doubt its the ultramax ammo...yeah it's cheap but it's practically like new.
