I have a new 16" A1 profile barrel from brownells. SO far I have a triangular hand guard cap, flat slip ring, and the A1 flash hider.

I got an Olympic A1 upper that has M4 feed ramps. The barrel extension does not have m4 feed ramps

the barrel extension needs modding to line up correctly with the receiver.

What should I use to modify the barrel extension? a round chainsaw file?

I'd probably swap the upper for the correct one cuz if you screw up the barrel extension, you're going to toss the whole barrel assembly.

OTOH, you may have a steadier hand with a file than I do. BSW

For the price of uppers, find a upper without the feed ramps and use that one for a future build.

I had the same problem on one of mine at one point, I took it to my gunsmith who promptly filed the appropriate feed ramps. Took the rifle to the range and fired a box of ammo through it with absolutely no issues what-so-ever. The only reason I decided to do this was because the man that I was ordering my barrel from was an incompetent ass who couldn't tell the difference between standard and M4 ramps. But luckily he was incompetent enough to not realize he was selling me a brand new Colt barrel for well under market. Anyway, he only charged $25 to file the ramps in so I am not complaining.

ADCO and CMMG both offer the service for cheap, but you can do it yourself if you have a dremel.

Add M4 cuts to Barrel Ext. To match up with M4 Receiver cuts. $15.00
We can modify your rifle extension to match the M4 cuts in an upper receiver. All we do is dremmel it to match - we dont remove it and grind to any specific angle. In short, if you have a Dremmel you can do it yourself.
