Okay, Im in a gray area here, help me out? I have 4 carbines that I am currently running, no issues, snapped together like Legos and I love em.
My Bushy XM15 E2 is my favorite, now I want one for a truck gun, throw around carefree type. I have a chance to buy a Bushmaster 14.5 M4 barrel and an Anchor Harvey A2 upper cheap, both new and nice. The upper does not have M4 ramps, the barrel does. Never ran this combo, will I be okay? Anything I should watch out for, am I asking for problems? Honestly, I have been told it's fine, but not to do it reversed  ( M4 upper, rifle ramp barrel extension ), anybody running this setup?

None of mine are set up that way, but you'll be fine. Like you said, just don't use a feed ramp barrel with a non-feedramp upper.

That config is OK; the one that can be problematic is ramped rcvr, unramped bbl.

Thank you. That is what I am hearing, just want a little more confirmation before I jump head first.

Yeah I totally blew that; killer has it right.
Std receiver/ramped barrel=ok
Ramped receiver/non-ramped barrel = no go

This is totally rumorsville, but...

According to some sources, a key feature of the new USGI tan body mags is a follower designed to aim the bullets higher so they don't hit the receiver feed ramps, because the penetrator on M855A1 was chewing up receivers.

According to some sources, Pmags (at least the current ones) already had that geometry.

So, if you believe the rumors, to whatever extent mismatch between the receiver & barrel ramps is actually a problem, running Pmags should fix it (or the new tan USGI mags, but apparently those are unobtanium for civies thus far, unless you find some that "fell off the truck").

I could never figure out what ok means. It might jam once in a while or what?

No, it simply means it wasn't designed that way, you have no benefit of a m4 ramp in the receiver, but have a steep angle ramp on the extension.  Some people believe this has the potential to impact bullet concentricity more on match rounds, and have a slight impact on accuracy.

I am hoping that it will be a problem free setup. M855 will be the majority of it's diet, I'm not looking for sub moa groups, just a solid bang around truck gun. Beer cans, ground hogs , coyotes and  who knows??? It'll be in the truck or atv mostly.

Thanks again to those with input on this.

If you have a Dremel-type tool, a 3/16" conical grinding tip and some fine sandpapers and dowling, you can easily blend and smooth a pair of feed ramps in about half an hour.  The end result works perfectly with no lip to catch on. - CW

I would not recommend taking a dremel tool to a barrel extension, unless you know what you are doing, in inexperienced hands, you can ruin a good barrel pretty quickly.

Myself, I would just shoot the shit out of it.

Nope, no dremel time here. Just wanted to get a consensus of what is being used. This will be my first of this combo. My Bushy from the early 90's has no extended ramps at all, my others are M4/M4 ramp creatures. Just wanted to run it past some guys with more build experience than myself. Assembling is fine for me, modifying can be sticky. From usable to bubba can be a short trip. Thanks again everyone.
