I got to prowling around on the net trying to find out what my upper is. I just found it on bushmaster's website. It is a 20 inch preban v match upper. HEHE i am tickled now that i know exactly what i have. Anyone else have one? What kind of performance do you get out of it? Thanks.

Congrats --- I think -- I've had my AR just over a month and between goodies for the gun and range time I've spent more on it than any gun I own --- good news is (was?) I got a good deal like it sounds you did.

I emailed DPMS:

http://www.dpmsinc.com/

they let me know when my gun was made and that it was sold as a complete rifle and even mailed me an owners manual.

Again congrates on your new AR ---have fun. but hold onto your walletHave you, like me, already thought about how you will build your 2nd.... 3rd......

Yes i have already thought about building my 2nd AR. I don't think i am gonna try to swap barrels out on this one, after i found out what i have. I think i will just buy or trade for another upper, i will wait and see how i like it for awhile. My biggest problem is gonna be ammo, lol kinda like a kid with a 22. I can see my ammo alotment going way up every weekend.

Welcome to the BRD!

The front sight post has been cut on it, leaving only the gas block. I was concerned about this but got to looking around and saw several other AR's like this. I was kinda wondering if this is normal, it looks like it's been done at the factory.

That is normal in the sense that some manufacturers DO offer that style of rifle. Usually in their "varmint" type rifles where people usually use magnified optics on them.

I really want a carbine model so i think i will look around for a 16" barrel and new handguard and change them out, or just get me a complete new upper. I was wondering if the is any way to tell if the upper is DPMS or someone elses?

The markings you will find on the upper (if there is any) will be that of the forge markings of the manufacturer of the upper. Not DPMS. Your best bet will be to take a look at the barrel. It may have a DPMS rollmark on it and the barrel twist rate. My 14.5 DPMS has one.

I looked on their website and could not find a rifle to match this one exactly. I love the rifle and it shoots great! I got into it for about $650, so i don't think i did too bad. How hard is it to change the barrels out and replace the handguards?

For people who ask, I always say - give it a try! Half the fun and the learning is in the trying.  If you can, get the proper tools. Read the HOW-TO posted by Falarak, then give it a go. If you encounter any stuck parts .... then that's the only time I would advise you to stop and take it to a smith. And to answer your question above, it is not that difficult.

I can tell this is only the begining, and the wife love's it so i might think of buying or building her one too! Thanks guys, any advice or help is greatly appreciated!

Again, welcome to the BRD.

And word of advise ... avoid the long non-stop post. Cut it up so it is easier to read. A lot of members here do not thave the patience to read thru a very long paragraph.   That may cause you to miss out on some VERY valuable advice from the long time posters!

Good luck and keep postin'!

Congrats on the new AR.  Post some pictures when you can.  When You get a new rifle or pistol, everyone wants to see pictures.
