I recently made my first ar purchase. Once it gets here I would like to become proficent with the pop up sights, but down the road am very interested in some sort of red dot optic. I am a pistol shooter and new to the ar platform. I have done my research as far as pros and cons of aimpoint vs eotech vs trijicon. However I have had very little time personally using one or the other. I think most of my shooting will take place between 1-100yds. What are your guys thougts on say an aimpoint/eotech with a flip to side magnifier vs a trijicon acog. Is the acog unrealistic for closer range targets? Looking at all of my options it looks like price is going to be very close either route. I like the sight picture of eotech better, but cant stand to take my gun out of the safe to go shoot and have dead batteries. I have also read of people having trouble getting their red dots to line up with a magnifier correctly. What are some suggestions of mounts so this doesnt happen. Also maybe some pictures with a small description of what your using and what you dislike/like about it. Thanks in advance. I have recently come across the acog 1.5x. How will this fare around the 100yd marker?

I  am in the same boat as you. I will be watching this thread. I recently bought an AR-15 7.5" SBR and have plenty of time to  shop around and look while I wait for the  BATF paper work to process. I have been looking at an Aimpoint T1 Micro, and then found this http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=XVOSPRC&name=Vortex+SPARC+Red+Dot+Scope&groupid=61 for 199.00. Battery life isn't even comparable to the T1 but for this difference in money I am seriouly giving it a look. Hope someone can chime in and give a review of it.

For less than 100 yards I would reccomend the Comp m-4 with 2 MOA Dot. The battery life is great (80,000 Hours on one single AA Battery) always maintains zero comes with Mount etc etc etc.

Mounted mine to my Colt 6940 and it gives co-witness to the flip ups. It is compatibal with night vision and allows you to keep both eyes open while shooting.

No magnifier will be needed for under 100 yards. Acogs are desighned for further ranges I think.

Comp m-4

Just my 2 cents
