I'm building my first ar  and wanted a timney trigger I'm thinking 4.5 pull has anyone had any issues firing surplus ammo with this?

Ammo selection is only dictated by which upper components you have.  If the rifle works with a stock trigger assembly, the Timney will work just fine (assuming it is installed correctly).

4.5 #'s is the trigger pull, not the force that hammer strikes the firing pin.

One has nothing to do with the other

Yeah I know the pull is the forced applied. I came across a forum on the trigger and stated if surplus ammo was to be used to use an ar-10 version and it was would more spring pressure to set off the primer was just curious on what was true.

Guess I could see a heavier hammer spring helping but it seems like its masking a problem. I'd be afraid of the heavier spring possibly scoring the shoulder of the firing pin. Sorry I have no first hand experience. I tend to stick with Lake City for mil ammo. Meaning I have a small pile but dont shoot much of it anymore. Match ammo obsession in session.
