I've pretty much just finished my first build and thought I'd post it up on here. It's actually my first AR but, I spent 8 years in the infantry and have plenty of experience with the platform. I figured since you guys unknowingly advised me along the way (I've been lurking) I aught to show you the outcome. I built it to be a fairly light, handy, do it all inside 200 yards carbine. Still to come is a ssa and a 1-4 in quick detachable mount. Right now I'm just enjoying what I've got. I finished it almost a week ago and have a little over 200 rounds through it. So far it works perfectly. Here's the break down -

Core 15 stripped lower (local gun shop)
Daniel defense LPK
BCM receiver extension and spring
spikes  t2 buffer
BCM light weight 16" middy upper
BCM BCG
BCM med gun fighter CH
Magpul pro rear BUIS
OD MOE furniture with MOE + grip

What do you think? I know the MOE furniture is everywhere you look these days but, it fit the build I was going for and I just love OD.

I've already got a 2nd and 3rd build to do. I'm going to build a M4gery for my son who is going to go in the Army after he graduates this spring (that's where the DD FCG that I'm going to replace with the SSA is going to go)and then I have to build something for my wife who decided she wants one too. I was really impressed with the trigger on that Daniel defense LPK. It had a little grit initially that smoothed right up and now, although heavy, it's quite smooth for a mil spec. Definitely better than anything I was issued. Should work well in his carbine. I wouldn't want to give him anything better and then have him get to basic and fail out of basic rifle marksmanship. This should help him prepare while still being quite useable. Thanks for the nice comments. I know it doesn't look like anything too impressive but, its what I wanted and it not only does exactly what I want but, I have no doubt that it will do it for a long time to come. Money well spent, as far as I'm concerned.

Nice build. Good description of it, meaning I think you accomplished what you wanted for that rifle.

When he gets back from Basic, send him to Front Sight Training Institute for a four day 'practical rifle' course.

Good luck on your next builds. Going to do an optic on the one posted?

I'm going to put a 1-4 on it in a quick disconnect mount. I live in the country and can shoot out to about 200 yards at my house so, I think a 1-4 will be adequate with out adding too much weight and bulk to it. That and with the quick disconnect I can pull it off to work on more dynamic type shooting too. I eventually want to build an 18" with a rifle gas system and a heavier barrel and bipod to replace my bolt .223 for prairie dogs (same 200 yard shooting lane) but, that will have to come after my other two mandated builds. For now I'm hoping a 1-4 on this one will suffice as an occasional alternative to my bolt.  My eyes aren't what they once were but, I dropped one at 100 with open sights while sighting it in the other day (target of opportunity) so, I'm pretty sure I can make hits at 150 with 4x just fine.

Nice looking gun!  I don't know why, but I have always loved the look of a standard AR with the Magpul hand guard.  I hope you've been saving your money because it only gets more expensive from here on out.  Pretty soon you will be setting up a trust and sending out form 1s and buying suppressors.

Thanks for all the compliments. It's nothing fancy but, simple is kind of what I was going for. The OD pmag is actually a "parts kit" because I live in New California (also known as Colorado) and We're limited to 15 round mags.
