Hello ,

so two issues resolved on to the third thing ive noticed. When firing my ar 15 , after the magazine is empty , ( all pmags now) the bcg locks back on the mag not the bolt catch.

if you have seen this elsewhere please shoot me the link , i have searched via google and not found much.  on ONE of my pmags the BCG locks back on the bolt catch. on this one mag the bolt catch picks up like it is supposed to via  the top of the magazine. on the other four pmags i have now , the bolt catch does NOT catch on the mag feed ramp and does not run up

if my stripped lower is out of spec how can i measure this ? i have a digital slide and can measure but i need to know the specs on an ar15 stripped lower a link to an image with all mil spec measurements would assist me greatly in checking mine vs pic.

this is the thirds post over my rifle and have come along way from the short stroking to failure to feed and rechamber ,

i believe once i resolve this issue my ar will be ready to throw some lead down range and i want it 100%

please advise , i can get images if requested.

i have 5 pmags now gen 2 30 rounders , they function flawlessly until the mag empties and the mag catch does not come up to catch the bcg

thanks

Does it catch when you put in a magazine and pull the charging handle back? If so, does it work the same way for all the mags you have?

If it does do this, it could be that not enough gas pressure is coming through to push the BCG back far enough.

What kind of ammo are you using?
Are you using a standard buffer and buffer spring?
Is you gas block lined up correctly over the gas port on the barrel?
Does the gas tube have any dents or bends in it?

It could be that there is enough pressure to cycle, but it just needs a bit more to lock back where it should.

Is there possibly another upper you could try? See if you have the same issue, if not then at least you know that your lower is setup correctly. You could also do the same with your upper receiver group, if you are able to use another lower and see if you have any issues.

Good Luck!

Does your bolt catch feel like it's binding or does it operate smoothly? Does the bolt catch work if you insert and empty mag and pull back on the charging handle?

If it binds, it's out of spec or installed improperly. Either the bolt catch, lower or roll pin could be out of spec. If it works when pulling handle on empty mag, could be gas or buffer related.

Do you have a friend that could lend you another bolt carrier group to test in the gun?

I have seen this problem with three different lowers. All of them were Delaware Machinery Lowers. The individuals who purchased the lowers and brought them to me for assembly were basically told to go jump in the creek when they contacted the dealer about the issue.

The Fix: What I did was install 9mm bolt catches and then fit them to each lower by filing back the engagement leg of the catch until it is just long enough to engage, and be pushed up by the follower of both USGI and PMag magazines while not leaving it so long that it comes in contact with the back of loaded ammunition as it feeds through the magazines. Also, you need to be sure and shape/bevel the top of the 9mm catch similar to a standard 5.56 catch so that nothing gets damaged and everything works smoothly. Then refinish with some cold blue or black.

Part Needed: Colt 9mm Bolt Catch

We're off in left field? Makes you wonder why people stop respondng in this section. It isn't othes fault that you have had three issues with your build, nor is it other's fault they haven't been following your issues. The "out in left field responses" were from people trying to help you based on info you posted.

I had an issue where some older mags wouldn't lock the bolt back, and I solved it by trimming one coil off the bolt catch spring .  Once trimmed, the bolt catch wouldn't compress the follower too hard.

Thanks a lot , this is exactly what i am seeing in my rifle , i have a D . M lower also =(  will never use off brands again my next will be a spikes or something else , my next rifle i will wait and use only top notch parts, so im checking the mags in the mag well and the links are showing what i am getting the bolt catch just barely hangs on the back of some mags then slips of the back. i have ordered the 9 mm bolt catch just a few min ago from the link provided above , and i have taken some measurements with my , whats this things called , im horrible with tool names , digital slide ruler i bought a while back , i show my current bolt catch to be at .3480" long from back to the tip finger. and when sticking in a mag, in order to reach the base of the round feed i need .4480" long from the back of the bolt catch.

Can someone tell me the lenth of the finger from the 9mm bolt catch to the tip ? i will measure it when it arrives to see if it will stick far enough out but i'd like to know before hand the spec on this part.

Thanks , when it comes in after i get back from work next month i will follow the instructions above , grind it down and blue it.
