I have a hypothetical question for yall. If i were to want to install a pinned front sight on a barrel without a place for the pins but the front sight was already drilled how would you drill it? I dont see drilling with just a drill bit working out wel with the rounded surface and first spotting with a very small end mill doesnt seem all that practical. Is there some sort of tool im missing? I know the easy solution would be buy another front sight that didnt have the holes already drilled but i wanted to see how this would be handled. Ive thought about buying one of the recon style barrels but it seems im sol so far as most of them just have gas blocks and no fixed front sights. I hate to go and put allot of stress on the barrel by drilling into it. Are there any fixed front sights that use set screws? I may can find a barrel with dimples on the bottom. Thanks |
| While the task is not impossible, it's hard for anybody who doesn't have access to good machining equipment. The barrel and FSB have to be drilled AND taper reamed together as a unit. Thus, you need a good stout machine to do this and a fixture to hold them together while doing the work. |
