the finish of an A2 buttstock is not the greatest at all, If you have been raised on Magpul and Vltor and flat tops and Larue rails, you will find many A2 parts to seem substandard, finish wise, the rear sight, and the way its kinda loose because of the elevation, the handgaurds, old milspec magazines compared to Pmags, everything.

This is a 50 year old fighting rifle, its only the more recent stuff thats all super nice finish, designed to look good as well as function well.

Its probably gun oil, clp, skin oil, surface flaws, everything.  If you were looking at a row of moden AR's and there was a non-FA colt A2 in the mix, you would think its some kinda POS based on the finish of the parts.
