hi guys, I just got a deal on an Oly upper and it is ban compliant, no flash hider/bayo lug.
the end of the barrel is machined down a little lower then the rest of the barrel. I would like my local machine shop to cut some threads on it so I can screw a flash hider on. it has a 16 inch bbl. so I know if I put a FH on it'll be un-tacti-kewl. but at least I'llhve one on. my question is: what do I tell my shop to cut? I'm not a machinist, thanks Mike, KC0xxx |

best bet is send the upper to Adco, one of our industry partners, to make sure it's done right. otherwise, it is 1/2 x 28 if memory serves me correctly Yeah, find yourself a gunsmith...a machine shop most likely will not be familiar with proper sizing and threads. |

Definitely take/send it to a place that specializes in ARs. They'll do it right and get the FH timed correctly. The end of the barrel is probably cut down to facilitate threading but it wasn't done. If it was cut down too much in order to prevent threading, you will have a problem as the other poster stated with barrel length because they'll have to cut it back to get the right diameter. Then you could have an illegal short-barreled rifle unless the muzzle attachment is permanently attached. Obviously a reputable gunsmith is not going to make a SBR without letting you know about it. |

With it being machined down I don't know if there is enough to make threads and still have it be 16in. You may have to have it cut to 14.5 and have the flashhider pinned on the be 16in OAL. +1 for ADCO. great service and top notch work. +1 The reason the barrel is smaller in diameter at the end is so that standard 1/2-28 threads can't be cut into it.....thus the "ban compliance". You'll need to have it cut and threaded/pinned/welded. |
