When you go to buy one of these, what do you look for in helping you select one? Thanks

Honestly the best thing to do is look for live reviews.  There are tons of info out there on flash hiders/suppressors and comparisons between them.  There are even guys demonstrating them at night on youtube.  After I did a couple of searches the Vortex from Smith seemed like hands down the one I wanted to go with, but do your own research.

Also may want to consider suppressor use.  i.e. AAC muzzle device if plans for AAC can.

I like Surefire brakes and FH's.  My next can will be a Surefire that fits on their muzzle device.

Good luck.

The 3 or 4 prong flashhiders work best, IMO.  For a 5.56 with 1/2-28 threads, the GI product is readily available for about $10.  If money is no object, the Surefire product is the best looking by far, but you'll have to wait for it. - CW
