i have this bushmaster m4 with a 11" barrel and 5 inch flash suppressor. i belive its pinned and welded? it is from t he factory. i am wondering if there is any way to replace it witha different style without replacing the barrel?

Yes you can with the right tools. However other than changing it to the 5.5" AK style muzzle brake there isn't another muzzle device on the market that would keep the barrel legal for a rifle (short of getting the right tax stamp for a SBR).

yeah i had thought about that SBR as well, however i found a g36 style 5.5 one that i am thinking i want, can you direct me to the right tools i will need for the job? also is it a fairly easy to do or should a gun smith be doing this ? thanks

I highly recommend a 'smith (like ADCO Firearms), but there are directions in our Do-It-Yourself forum (few below this one).
