| A friend has given me a frankenCAR to fiddle with. I shot it Monday. First several rounds, no problem. Then full auto burst, followed by two more. Where do I look for when a semi-auto starts shooting auto? |

Shotgun the action open and pull the FCG. Check to make sure that the FCG is the correct pin size (.154 pins for a .154 FCG). From there, reinstall the FCG and make sure that the disco spring is installed large coil side down into the trigger slot. Now cock the hammer back until the hammer disco sear and the disco's sear as close they will become together without touching the trigger. The two should have a free gap of around .003 between the two. Now close the action, charge the weapon while holding the trigger back and lock the bolt on the catch. Without letting go of the trigger (read disco still holding the hammer), hit the bolt release and make sure that the hammer doesn't get danced off the disco as the carrier slams home. Last is to recharge the rifle while still holding the trigger back and let the bolt lock home. Now very slowly, release the trigger until the hammer release from the disco, and is retained by the trigger primary sear. If the gap or disco spring is not right, the hammer is going to slam the FP during the carrier slam, or the trigger release. Bottom line is you may need to retime the disco by removing metal from it at the front/bottom section that rides on the front of the trigger. Ideally, if the gap is set correctly, the hammer will be released from the disco just before the trigger comes to rest as you release it. |
