Hi, all -

I read the guide on sight adjustment. is there a special tool that should be used to rotate the front sight post? It's way too tight to move with fingers, but I don't want to just take a pair of pliers to it until I know that's OK.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Get the tool, or use a bullet tip.

Yes, Here's what they look like. Also it can be turned with the tip of a FMJ bullet.

The tool is worth buying. I got mine from Brownell's and it is for both A1 and A2 front sights.

YMMV, but I have 6 ARs w/ standard FSBs and ya know I have only ever had to zero the irons once on any of them.

A standard M193 round seems to work fine - and ya can shoot it downrange when your done - cost = 0

Thanks for the suggestion, guys. I can't find that tool on Brownells, though...do you know the mfg. or its "official" name? Thanks again...

Here's one link.

Here's another link.

Unless you have an upper with an M-16 or M-16A1 rear sight, the best bet is probably number 078-000-010 (see first link).  Your FSB will allow installation of either an A1 or A2 style post - they're interchangeable.

My 2 bushmasters shot  about a foot low

My LMT`s were real close
and only had to install the arms 40`s no fine tuneing wich was cool

My eotech 551 was almost perfect at 50 yards on a lmt 14.5

Well, I took the gun to the range today, and I needn't have worried -- it's just a bit low at 25 yards. Since I'm going to zero it in at either 50 or 100, I imagine it's in the "good enough" area.

Left to right is another story. My relatively tight cluster was 6.5" left at 25 yards. I rotated the knob until the white line shifted a full increment to the right (which seems to be about 1/4 the total amount of available travel), and the group moved to about 4.25" left. Is it really possible that I might need to move this thing 3/4 of its available travel to get it shooting straight?

By the way, I did order one of those tools from Brownells -- thanks for the reference.

A really small flat head(like used to fix sunglasses) can hold the pin down theres a little lip on the retention pin that the flat head holds down. Cover the front sight with a small piece of electrical tape so to not scratch it up. The tool works the best though
