| Hello. I currently run a 16" barrel with a carbine gas system and a stock buffer. I want to go to 14.5 mid length“. I'm having trouble running down a 14.5 middy barrel that I can afford. I was wondering. If I have my barrel cut down, run a heavy buffer, and a surefire mb556, can I equal the softness of the mid length gas system? Then later on if I find a barrel with a mid, it'll just be gravy. |
| 16" carbine barrels are heavily over gassed (2.4 ms of dwell time - a 14.5 carbine is roughly 2ms). cutting the barrel down and running a heavier buffer will help. you can try just doing a heavier buffer and see how that feels for you. I was able to run an h3 buffer on a 16" carbine barrel I have before I had it cut down. no 2 rifles are the same and depending on ur gas port size, ammo, carrier (semi vs auto), etc... you may not be able to do an h3. if you buy the h3 buffer tho, you can swap tungsten and steel weights between your buffer and the h3 and bring the h3 down to an h2. |
