Guys, I purchased a BM M-4 five months ago when I was stationed in El Paso, TX. While I was in Fort Benning, GA, I spent over $500 modding/customizing my M-4. A few modifications required the removal of the muzzle brake. The gunsmith who helped me customized my M-4 did such a poor job at reinstalling my muzzle brake that my rifle is now DEADLINE because of a safety issue. My bullets are keyholing. Anyhow, I am currently in Fort Hood, TX and is waiting to deploy to the Sandbox this Sunday (father's day). I recently purchased a EGW Gen II muzzle brake and wanted it install to fix the keyholing problem. I have went to EVERY gunsmith in the Fort Hood area and none of them can help me. However, today I found one gunsmith that is willing to help me. Here is the catch though. He is going to charge me anywhere from $60-120 (labor) to remove my old muzzle brake and install a new one. Not only that, my rifle will not be ready for 3 weeks. This is bad because I am leaving in less than a week for Iraq. My QUESTIONS are: 1) Does anyone have any good gunsmithing refferals for the Central Texas Area? 2) Does $60-120 (labor) sounds good or is the gunsmith trying to RAPE me? Please help. Thanx |
| Well, get a dremel and a load of cutting wheels, do it yourself! It's not hard at all. If the previous 'smith used silver solder, you can get a propane torch, heat it up and remove. If he pinned the brake on, you have to cut it open, remove the pin (or pins). It'll take you 30 minutes, and the dremel and cutting wheel you buy you can use later. |
