i would like to know if i were to buy an ar 15 in the 16`` car config. with the standard handgaurds can i put m4 handgaurds on it ?

there are 3 normal lengths: CAR, midlength, and rifle; the CAR length will work w/ anything "M4" related (usually) when it comes to length

The midlength handguard is longer than the CAR & M4 handguards.

^ i know that, i own a midlength. Ive heard the a car and a m4 handguards have different shapes or what not.

The M4 has the double heat shield on the inside.  It is a fatter handguard because of that.  The length is the same as the CAR handguard.
