i was just wondering if anyone out there could measure the thread s, and pitch, of the free float handgaurds.  basically the threads on the exterior of the barrel nut, that the handgaurds turn onto.  thank you very much, brian.

also, where to find good, but cheap ff handgaurds.  carbine lenght or shorter.  thanks again, brian

Brownells carries DPMS aluminum one piece float tubes in the various lengths.  These particular tubes replace the barrel nut, and are in fact a large, extended barrel nut.

Hey that's a great idea! Reminds me of the Tubb 2000. www.davidtubb.com/t2k.html

I know some other company made a stock that is very similar to the Tubb 2000, that allows you to drop in a Rem 700 action.  I thought I bookmarked it, but I can't seem to find it.

Cool, post pics when you finish it!

Too bad about your car... What's the make and model?  Just this weekend I replaced the radius arm bushings and shocks on my 91 Navajo.  Big pain in the ass.  Made the SUV handle way better.  But while I was doing it, I noticed that both of the seals on the steering knuckles were busted and grease was coming out...  Then one of the tabs that holds the spring in place had a crack through it...  It should hold, but now I'll have to watch it like a hawk.  Hopefully I can get a replacement, or weld it back up at a buddies house.
