This is a first build so my inexperience is probably showing here.  I am trying to install a JP VTac handguard on a Mega upper with a Cardinal Armory barrel.  The problem is that the barrel nut is not moving enough to line up with the gas tube opening.  After doing the 35 ft. lbs. 3 times the inner nut is just past the opening.  80 ft. lbs. will not move it to alignment with the next hole.  I tried backing the outer nut out one turn as suggested in the instruction but I had the same results.

I will try a different torque wrench on the chance my old one is messed up for some reason but I am looking for ideas what to do about getting this upper together.

Did you grease the treads of the upper?

yes I did grease the treads.  After posting this question I went out to the garage and it torqued into place the first try.  I don't understand it, but glad it did.  Just finished putting the rest of it together :)
