I was building my first upper last night and put on a low-profile gas block. Unfortunately, I didn't read that I needed to keep it back off the barrel lip (???) 1/32 of an inch before I tighted down the set screws (there are 2 that set on the underside of the barrel). So, I went to loosen them and the first one... no problem. The second one would not budge. I was using a 5/64 allen wrench and it ended up twisting and then the set screw stripped. So, I ended up drilling, after attempting everything else I knew to do, the set screw down to the barrel (I know that was dangerous, but I was trying to be very careful. Well, it still would not come out, but I was able to carefully "bang" it down some. Now, I'm not sure what I should do. It's still really tight, so it would be very difficult to take it all the way off without drilling some more (nervous). It has the 1/32 clearing that I need now, so should I just put the other set screw in and leave it be (and deal with it later if I ever have to take it off)? Thanks for your help. |
