yeah, i have it bad. got my first Colt AR15 a month after i turned 18. took four years before i had enough ca$h laying around to buy my new one. Colt match target lower, with a Rock River upper half, 16" with midlength handguards, hogue rubber grip, troy single point sling, new colt carry handle / rear sight is on its way, and pending a deal for 5 new magazines for it.

my girlfriend didnt believe me at first- that it is a disease- but... i had a dream about my rifles the other night, and she just had a dream about my rifles last night. her dream was that we were on an airplane, and somehow i had both rifles layed out on the tray table. 2 women were complementing the rifles in her dream. is she jealous?  i can see it in her eyes that she wants me to build her one of her own...  shes just afraid to admit it-

help me prove to her that im not alone in the BRD- its a wide spread case that is highly contagious
and drains your pockets, also resulting in lack of sleep-

lets hear the feedback

Black rifle disease is this:

I bought my 20" HBAR in 1990. A Colt. I was happy, mostly. Decided I didn't like the heavy barrel as much as I thought I would. But.....

Fast forward to last summer/fall. I start collecting carbine parts. In December I used a bonus to buy a Bushmaster 16" Super Lightweight barrel. It was on back order for several months.

In January, with 40 hours of overtime on my paycheck I bought an early Air Force M16 upper and stock set. Converted my HBAR to that. Ahhhh.....fond memories of the SP1 I owned 25yrs ago.

Finally the Bushie barrel came in and I converted my HBAR into an XM177 clone. Of course, this meant buying a stripped SP1 upper receiver to fit my large hole lower receiver. Always wanted a lightweight carbine and now I have one.

Unfortunatly I now have two spare upper receivers with stock sets and no lowers for them.

So in 6 months or so I've gone from happily owning one rifle to unhappily owning one rifle and 2 other halves.

Plus the original collapsible carbine stock I originally bought is a cheap import. After comparing it to a couple of Colt collapsibles I will be upgrading at some point. There goes another $150 - $175.

And that is Black Rifle Disease.

What until you get "evil black gun disease"
The only comfort to it is that if it isn't evil lookin' and isn't black you probably don't want it. The trade off is you must have HKs and expensive ARs. It covers hunting/sniper rifles, assault rifles, pistols, and shotguns.
That sucks, especially when you figure out accessorizing makes them more evil looking. Then you start trying to maximize the scary looking factor of all your weapons.
It's like the ebola version of BRD.

The trick is to put it into words that a female can relate to.

"It's not a disease, honey...It's a passion!".

ETA: This wordgame bullshit does not work on my wife, but YMMV.

well, i could have just stuck with my colt "ban" model and had a gunsmith put a bayonet lug and flash hider on it- OR i could have gone and did what i did and just put together a SECOND AR15 that HAD all that stuff- plus a collapsable stock and shorter barrel!!

Well, I got my first AR about 2 years ago, it was an Olympic Plinker.  I had it for about 2 weeks and didn't even shoot an entire magazine through it, I thought it sucked and was determined to stick with my trusty Mini 14's.  I sold the plinker at my wife's garage sale and got my money back out of it and haven't looked at the "black rifles" since that time.

Now, lets speed ahead to the end of Feb. this year.  One of my buddies is big into the black rifles and has several of them.  He talked me into ordering a stripped lower and building one of my own.  Well, that one "build" turned into about 3 or 4 builds now.

Over the last two months I have bought/sold/traded over 12 of the black rifles and have, as of friday night, acquired my last of the "main 3" that I want to keep, a 9mm Oly that takes the Glock mags, a Bushy M4A3, and a Colt 6700 A3.

That should satisfy me for about a week and I'll be back on the hunt again.  Hey, not only are these things addictive, but can be a lucrative "hobby" if you have the patience and expertise to know what you are looking for/at.

There, I've admitted that I have a problem, that is the first step, right?  But wait, I haven't even added any goodies to any of my current 3 . . . . . . . . . . . ..

I got my first AR when I was 15, a Colt Match Target HBAR for High Power Service Rifle matches.  I then traded it about a year later for a stainless Armalite CMP rifle.

Fast forward to a few weeks after I turn 18.  I go to a funshow and buy a BM A3 14.5+perm AK74 brake carbine.

2 Months later I sell the BM upper and start building a RRA Middy w/ FF quad rail.  It holds me over for the better part of my freshman year of college.  Then I decide to spray paint it.  Then the ban goes out...well I need a flash suppressor...and a Magpul stock would be great too.

First week of school sophomore year, I build a 9mm carbine.  This is sold rather quickly b/c I need cash.  A few weeks later, I buy a lower, and start piecing together my dream M4gery (LMT 14.5 w/ perm Phantom, KAC RAS w/ associated toys, EOTech 552, SureFire light, cut carry handle...went through various stocks-CAR, Magpul, VLTOR, and finally an LMT Gen 2 M4).

It's so bad that I know I've owned more in that span of time, but I can't remember them.  I've also built several ARs each for at least 5 of my friends, probably more.  I also spent time building them for a local dealer just to gain more experience (money was nice too).

So I just turned 20 and have 3 complete ARs, 3 stripped lowers and assorted misc parts laying around.  I've built more ARs than I can count.  I've also dabbled in shotguns (for 3gun matches), FALs, and AKs during this time.

Yes, I'm a monster.  And NO, it NEVER stops.

It's so bad that I'm looking more forward to being 21 so I can get my Concealed Carry permit (especially since it speeds up transactions), an SBR, and a can for said SBR or other ARs than I'm looking forward to going to the bar.  And no, it's not that I don't drink, I drink all the time...BRD is just stronger than an form of alcoholism.
