I got this upper on trade a while back and would like some more information on it. The guy I got it from did not know any information concerning the upper.

Here are some pictures:

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Is that good/bad?
Any idea on the twist in the barrel? it is only marked 5.56.

Thanks again.

Purely an educated guess but say most likely a 1:12 twist.  What kind of money do you have in it and do you want to part with it?

Olympic Arms.

I'm not an expert, but are there any other markings on the barrel?  Is it a heavy profile?  It is hard to tell by looking at the pictures.  If it is a heavy profile, and since it says, "5.56" on it, it may be 1/9.

To the original poster, you have an authentic M16A1 upper receiver there, the LM marked ones were replacement parts IIRC.  Likely someone just put together the upper and the barrel on their own, it is unlikely that it is a factory assembled one.  If I was to hazard a guess, it is likely a 1/9 twist HBAR with no chrome lining.

the only barrels i've seen stamped simply 556 are olympic arms...

if that is the case, you can assume it is not chrome lined and probably 1/9 twist.

have you checked the profile under the handguards?
