I recently bough an LMT with a 16" barrel 1:7, colapsable stock and monolithic rail.  It will be used for police work and at the range for fun. I do general patrol work but I also do game warden type work in the back country. I was planning on putting some sort of optic on it and back up iron sights. I have looked at ACOG, Trijicon RMR, aimpoint, and eotech. I'm leaning toward the one of the trijicons because they don't require batteries. Looking for suggestions.

I'm not an LEO or anything, but I do go hiking around with my carbine, sometimes hours at a time.  I have recently found the comfort of keeping my beating around carbine light, but since you went with the monolithic rail, I guess that isn't important to you so I won't consider that.  Of all that you mentioned, I've owned all of them except the RMR, but did have a Doctor Optic, so the form factor is similar.

With the RMR, I'd see using it as a primary sight to be less than ideal, just because of the form factor.  You have to get it into your line of sight and probably put it into some form of protective mount.  If you do that, it isn't really all that small anymore and you could have gone with something that might have worked better.

The ACOGs are really nice.  The glass is on the top end.  Not the best, but up there.  Lots of different reticles are available for what might suit you and they are compact.  I never could get myself to like the short eye relief (2" at best depending on the model) and I found that a magnified optic wasn't the best solution all of the time.  A simple red dot was more than sufficient most of the time.  If you just have to have an ACOG, the lower magnification models are really handy.  I like the 1.5X and 2X, but again, short eye relief.

The Eotechs probably have the best range of reticles for the red dot type of sights, but I always found the controls to be a bit clumsy and the battery life isn't what I'd call ideal.  This is just a matter of opinion, but I like to leave my scopes on.  Just one less thing to think about.  There have also been a bunch of reported cases of some just going through batteries like there's no tomorrow.  All four of the Eotechs that I had did this.

The Aimpoints are kind of a plain jane sort of thing.  Just a regular old red dot, but they have amazing battery life.  If you haven't, you really need to check out the T1 or H1.  Super little sight.

I wouldn't worry too much about the not needing batteries thing, especially if you are going to be running BUIS.  I think that the most useful sight would be an Aimpoint.  It'll cover most situations and it's one of those things that you can put on top of your rifle and forget about.

TA33 or TA11, perhaps?

Do a search.  There are some really good threads/articles on those (from Hokie, USMC03, Zak-Smith, et al), as well as good tacked threads on choosing the right optics.  Good luck.
