| Ok, after reading through some of the posts here I'm still unsure about the 'holo' type sights. Do they differ from a reflex red dot sight in how the reticle appears to be projected on the target, ie giving the impression of being projected 50 yards away. I've used an AimPoint red dot on a 9mm RRA range rental gun, but never a holo sight. They seem very popular from the number of rifles in these threads that have them, but are they that much different than the AimPoint I used? |

No they are not that much different. You look through an Aimpoint or an EoTech you will see a red image. The EoTech gives you a bigger field of view than an Aimpoint. The EOTech Holographic Sights do differ from all other red dot or reflex sights in the technology that they use. EOTech is the only manufacturer in the world of a true holographic sight. The holographic reticle is a 3-dimensional image reconstructed on the rear window of the sight. This allows it to remain in focus with the target. It also provides a heads-up-display type window with a very wide field of view. No other sight uses this technology. Red dot sights simply project a red (or amber) LED light forward which is then reflected off a curved and partially mirrored front lens back to the shooters eye. Red dot reflex technology is more than 30 years old. Holographic technology has only been available for approximately 10 years. Both Holographic and Red Dot (reflex) sights are designed for the same type of short-range fast shooting. They are typically non magnfied 1x optics, although some have been made with magnification built in. |
