Does anyone know a good way to improve the stock trigger on an AR without spending over $125 to get a whole new match trigger?

Buy the J.P. enterprises reduced power spring kit (can be found at brownells) or a similar one, this kit will lower pull weight to about 4.5-5 lbs. Then do some engagement surface polishing and there you have it, a smoother SLIGHTLY lighter trigger pull.

You can also try the "5 minute trigger job."  Just google for it.  I've had no problems with it and with a good polish, it is leaps and bounds better than the stock trigger.

I believe that for bill springfield, 35 bucks will get you a 4# trigger job which is very sweet, I have one in my carbine. and $49 will get you a 3# trigger job including the yellow spring and a cutting the hook off the hammer to lighten it. I have a 3# trigger in my SPR-ish, and for dry-fire it is even sweeter (won't get to try it w/ live fire until this weekend). I believe his email is [email protected] or go to Trigger-Work. Those prices involve mailing him your trigger parts.
