I am very new to the forum, and young (23 years old), but it is almost tax time and funds will be available for first AR!  I like Bushy M4's and RRA tacticle guns.  I know pretty much nothing for now so I want to buy a complete rifle, get used to it, and eventually get different uppers to experiment with.  My question is; what uppers can be used on the bushy m4, or RRA lowers?  Can any 308 uppers be used?  How long does it take to switch uppers?  Any info will be greatly apprecited.  Love the site!

AR10 sized uppers (.308 length cartridges) cannot be used on AR15 sized lowers and vice versa. Those are two different animals with two different magazine sizes.

How long does it take? Simply push two pins and that is it.

So basically any other 223/5.56 upper will fit?  What about 7.62x39 uppers?

I was just on the rock river website and downloaded the catalog.  It stated that you cannot get the six position buttsock on the tactical weapons (except for law enforcement models).  It also says that the catalog is from Audust 2004.  Now that the AWB is gone can I get the six position stock?  Thanks again AR-15.com'ers

The federal law allows you to have a 6 pos stock but I don't know about your state laws.

I live in PA for the time being, but will be moving back to my homelands of VA in about a month.  There isn't a whole lot VA doesn't permit (they can even sell handguns in newspapers)!

buckhunter - bear in mind that in some instances, some fitting may be required when interchanging one manufacturers upper with another's lower.

Example - my father-in-law had to file down the take down pin "lobe" on a BM upper to get it to fit intoa RRA lower.  It was more than just a swipe or two with a file.  YMMV

Don't think so, as the mag wells are different sizes.

Wrong. They will fit. I know, I had a Colt in 7.62X39 and it fit right on my 5.56 AR15 lower and vice versa. The mag wells are the same.

RRA lowers are machined tighter in the rear for a tighter fit.  Some uppers have to be banged on to fit, but filing usually ins't necessary as all you have to do is work it on and after a few dozen takedowns or a few hundred round (whichever comes first) it will loosen up.  Otherwise, all uppers made for standard small pin lowers will fit (older Colt civilian uppers were made with large front pivot pins).

7.62x39 uppers will work as mentioned, finding good functional mags for that system is another matter.  9mm (and other pistol calibers) uppers will also work.  6.8mm uppers will work.  There are also a plethora of other calibers that will work.  As mentioned before, .308 (and other larger calibers like .300 WSSM) will require AR10 type receviers.
