Hey all,
I just purchased 20 mags from DSG... the D&H black teflon w/ magpul (earthy grey) followers and I am having one hell of a time loading my mags with 55grain federal xm193 ammo with a striplula!!!! Not sure if its me or the mags or the lula, so figure i best ask before hitting up DSG... In no way is this a knock on DSG, their mags or etc...this is strictly to get my mags to be able to be loaded with a strip lula and of a instructional, informational type of post only...... Here is the issue i am having; I put lula on mag, and load lula up with 10 loose rounds, and when I push the rounds into the mag, one or more of the tips grabs the lip of the mag and creates havoc, and stops the loading process...Weird thing is, doesnt always happen... I am not sure if I need to grind down the lip a bit, or if they will work themselves in, since they are brand new, or ???? Has anyone else had this issue with new mags and a striplula??? these are my first usgi 30's, so Im lost... any advice with the use of the lula i might be missing or ??? ...I am all ears...HELP... |

I have experienced this type of problem before, and in my case it always seemed to be that I wsan't pushing straight, that the whole mess was angled backwards just a tad. Tolerance stacking, I guess. Anyway, by being really careful making sure the first few go in dead straight [pull any slop out of mag so it's as far back and angled up as possible] and everything worked.
Hope that helps. |

I got a email back from Guy, Here is his advice: 1. When you load a StripLULA with loose rounds make sure they are all the way back in the rounds' column. 2. Hold the StripLULA tight with your index finger on the bottom rear of the StripLULA. 3. Load while the StripLULA is straight above the magazine. If this doesn't help let me know |

If this doesn't help let me know DPMMM has HIT IT ON THE NAIL for you. Ya owe him on this one. You HAVE to make sure each round is seated all the way back in the LULA. I'd guarantee you NEVER wouldve encountered this problem if you used stripper clips with the StripLULA - because the stripper clip keeps each round perfectly aligned and properly positioned in the StripLULA. Now, that being said - and I'm about to describe a very rare occurence - make sure you're not using some exotic ammo with a heavy grain bullet with a long ogive (loosely speaking - that curved area on the front half of the bullet from the crimp at the casing all the way to the bullet's nose or tip). Usually these are match-grade custom loads setup for long distance accuracy and typically loaded one round per magazine. You can't load a 2nd rd in the mag because the bullet's nose extends beyond the front lip of the mag. You'll find these in custom reloads that use high-end match bullets from companies like Berger Bullets. Ok...not to worry...chances are this won't ever happen to you 99% ever.
