Yesterday I took my LMT out to the range, and I kept having jamming problems. I only was able to shoot 4 mags with no problems the other 6 mags had the following.

Weapon:
14.5 M4 Barrel with carbine gas system
Magpull M93 stock with "H" stamped buffer
All internal parts LMT.
Ammo Q3131A
Mags USGI w/ green followers (Bolt locks successfully wen mag is empty)

Problems:
1.) Two rounds in chamber one live the other spent. Number of times = whole day
2.) Two rounds in chamber both live. Number of times = twice
3.) One round (spent) lodged in chamber. Number of times = whole day
(I would have to dig out the single rounds.)

Steps taken = I came home cleand/lubed, and I took apart the bolt and inserted a "D" ring.

Have you fired the weapon since you D-ringed it?

Check your Gas Tube and Roll Pin.
If there is a lot of noticeable carbon build-up around the GT at the Front Sight Base or Gas Block, then you may have a Gas leak that is causing your woes.

I was having similar issues with my 7.3" until I took care of the Gas leak with a new Gas Tube Roll Pin (the other one was mashed in a bit).

Let us know if the Defender alone resolved.

2.) Two rounds in chamber both live. Number of times = twice

Total mag problem on this one,

with the other being problems that the D-fender may resolve until the rifle is broken in, then it should be pulled if the extractor and spring are in good working order, and the chamber is not on the rough/gooved side, say after a few hundred rounds.

Best,

No, I haven't shot it yet, I checked the gt at the front sight base, and no noticeable carbon leakage. Can't wait to see if the D ring gave it a good fix. I also followed the advice of another ARFCOM user and invested in a wolf extractor spring. As soon as it comes I'll go fire the weapon and post another range report in this same thread.

I think you might be right Dano523. The two double feeds happened with the same mag. Any more advice would be highly held, and appreciated. I want to be able to depend my life on this weapon.

Edited to add:

I also wanted to note the round count. This is the first time I shot this weapon, and I put 260 rds through it, all Q3131A. It kinda bummed me out that I spent so much on the rifle and it malfunctioned. I hope this is one of thoughs things you have to tweak and break in, to get it right.

I posted in your other thread.

FYI it's bad form to have two threads with the same topic in two different forums.  You could just have asked me or Lancelot to move the thread here.

As I posted in the other thread #2 is a definately magazine issue.

#1&3 look to be extractor issues.  The D-Fender should solve it - but you should upgrade the spring/insert combo on the extractor to at least the current spring & black insert combo if not better.

Also, did you lube the rifle properly before taking it out to shoot?  If it has to overcome alot of friction from a lack of lube a new rifle would have functioning issues.

*** UPDATE ***

I live in a small town where there are no buses, etc., & I had no means of transportation. The day I when to the range it was in a rental car. I just recently bought a car and was able to do what I love to do...go shooting again! On good Friday, I drove up to Lakeland, FL and took my LMT 14.5", & my Bushmaster 20". I took the advice given to me and bought a D fender ring & an extra strength extractor wolf spring. The D fender is on the LMT along with the wolf spring, but I only put the wolf spring on the 20", no D fender. I also took some really bad mags (non functional) and installed the gray magpull followers, and they instantly became fully functional (like magic). I was depressed after buying my LMT & Mags, but with these cheep little fixes they have now made me extremely happy. Well, I have to say the 20" ran flawlessly it just shoots off to the right, but I didn't zero it. As for the LMT I put 500 rounds through it with the previously non functional mags & the fully functional mags, and boy was it fun! It takes out all the frustrations I have had in the past to be able to just shoot without clearing jams or double feeds. I LOVE IT!!! AR's ROCK!!! 500 rds without one hiccup... Not one single problem. This is the same gun that I had to clear 4-5 times every mag. Amazing!!! Now I'm using this rifle as my #1 home defense tool. Now I can depend on it...thanks to the guys here on AR15.

Thank you,
Francisco E.
