I saw a few pics of xenon tactical lights with a remote switch cable in another post- what brand(s)offer this option? Also, what non-weaver/picatinny type clamp mounts are available? I have an interest in mounting a tactical light, but don't want to put out the cash for a whole rail system handguard just for that purpose, and prefer side mount to underneath as a personal preference. I assume it goes without saying that I want to accessorize my new DPMS M4 :) |

A couple of companies offer a short piece of rail that will attach to your handguards for around $40 - GG&G and Falcon Industries come to mind. The number one brand in terms of popularity, durability and high price is Surefire. They offer the M500 system that replaces the handguards, plus some barrel clamp options in the "Classic" line. The TACM company comes with their own mounts. Don't use their mounts. Their mounts are crummy especially the barrel mount. TacStar is a different company. Not all their products are great but their barrel mounts are good. I like the TACM light. I'm gonna replace it with a SureFire eventually but the TACM is a good light. |
| TAC-M makes a side mount for the light that mounts in a vent hole on the top or bottom of the handgaurd. I used it before getting my QD mount and it was very sturdy and placed the light perfectly. It is made of polymer and cost $15. Much, much better than their barrel mount. |
| The side mount might be ok. I haven't used it. After the experience with the TACM barrel mount, I stayed away from their mounts. I also don't personally like the light mounted off to one side. The nice thing about the TacStar mount is that it will work with many different brands of flashlights. |
