I'm trying to find a decent scope for my wife's SPR, I plan for it to be reliable at roughly 500 yards, but dont want to pay more than 300 for it if possible, holding zero is a must, i can find any usable info and would love some suggestions, I got a cheap ass barska 1x trijicon knock off for my carbine but i want good optics on hers. so where should I start, 4x 6x higher? 20mm 30mm 40mm or higher apterature?
her SPR: 24" 6.5mm grendel with magpul SPR stock and enidine buffer |

I have a Bushnell Elite 3200 in 7-21 power on my dog gun and it works perfectly for that out to 400 yards; but at anything less than 100 yards the field of view is too small to find anything. If you are looking specifically for 500 yard performance the answer is different than if you are looking from 1-500 yards. In my opinion if you are looking for a 1-500 yard role and deer sized targets then you would be best served by a 4-12 or 5-15 (general range) power scope. If you stay in that power range you can have your $300.00 price point, and several choices, go looking at your local sporting goods store. If you are really wanting more power than that be prepared to double (or triple) your budget, (and have the gun not be useable at close in ranges.) I actually prefer to use a 2-7 power on my carry around SPRish rifle (but then again SPR's normally don't have 24 inch bull barrels). Two power is perfect for the woods and I have never needed more than 7X out to 300 yards on a Coyote.
You do need to decide weather you have an SPR or a Long range Varmint rifle, they do not have mutually inclusive optics, and if you compromize on optical quality to get a higher range (to stay at a price point,) you will not be happy at all. My choice in your price range would be the Bushnell Elite 3200 in 5-15 X 40. Not as many bells and whistles as the previous post but optically quality will be much higher and I will bet the picture will be clearer and more precise at 15X than a Bariska at 24X. You may also want to check out the Leupold VX-1 in a similar power range. and as always the advice you get here is worth just as much as you paid for it. But spend more money if you really want a good combination the first time.... |

Talk to Matt over at Wonder Optics He sells a budget scopes, lifetime guarantee and I challege you to find somebody with better CS in the Scope business, in your price range. Tell Him rescueswimmer sent you.
You can look at the Wotac, If your willing to go to the 400.00 range you can get the falcon menance and if you read the reviews for 400.00 your getting close to a 1500.00 scope. Yes it has a few short comings but you will not be dissapointed for what your spending. I have 1 and could not be happier. |
