I have narrowed down my choice to a 1X-6X Primary Arms or the Vortex Strike Eagle.  I've read countless posts and reviews and it seems these scopes are pretty much on par with each other, and the choice boils down to personal opinion.

Considering the price range (obviously on the inexpensive end of rifle optics) would I pick up a little better quality glass if I went with a scope with non-illuminated reticle?  Illumination is not a big deal with me and if I had to drop down to 1-4 it would be fine.  Any suggestions?

Burris TAC30 1-4 has damn good glass for the price if you can tolerate the reticle.

Just throwing it out there.

ETA:  Also look at the Leupold Mark AR line.  Both illuminated and non are good values.  Was impressed with how sharp their image was in them.  Once again, great for the money.

I looked through the Strike Eagle briefly in the store.  I liked the reticle.  Glass was just ok for me.  Kinda fish-bowly on 1x.  Of course it could be me.  I have terrible eyes, and the store is a terrible place to compare.

Man, I've heard good things about the TAC30 and the MTAC but I just can't get into the reticle on those.  Want something as simple as possible.
.
The Leopold AR would be great but the low end is 1.5.  I'd like a true 1X if possible.

I was impressed with the 1-4 Nikon M223 that I saw in store.  Need to take a second look.

No scopes are true 1x. So keep that in mind. Some get close

You are right but 1 seems closer than 1.5X.  For my use either would probably do fine.

If you're getting a low powered variable, you really want a daylight illuminated reticle.  Not so much to the magnified, longer range shots but when it's cranked down to 1X and you're running it as a red-dot at close range.

I am actually in the process of deciding between a primary arms 1-6 and a m223 1-4.  I have a 2-8 m223 which i really like on my other rifle. I just cant decide which to buy.
