hey everyone im new here and am wanting to build an AR and am wanting to do a retro build, but of course have lots of questions, my first one is someone i know has a m16a1 upper for dirt cheap but its stripped, besides the sights and a couple of other things can i order normal AR15 upper parts (besides the barrel of course) for any AR or it has to be specific to this upper?

thanks for any help or advice and i hope to learn alot here!

Standard parts will fit fine, but for it to look authentic, you will want to get a tear drop forward assist and the older correct ejection port door with the small rectangle flat pad. It all just depends on how accurate you want to be. You can get a repro tear drop at JSE surplus for $10 but the port door you will have to look for on GB or EE and it will cost from $25-40 depending on condition. You could always get a standard current port door now to get you going and keep your eyes out for a correct one down the road.

Out of curiosity, does the receiver have any forge codes on it? (would be in the area right under the rear sight, on the right hand side)....also, is the front pin hole 1/4" or 5/16"?

If you can't actually see it in person, you need to have this guy send you some good photos of this thing, at least before committing to any kind of deal.
