Hopefully you guys can help me out here, I'm working on my first AR, it's going to be a carbine length. My lower is completely assembled and I'm shopping around for my upper assembly. I'm considering the M4 profile barrel but I'm trying to keep the cost as low as possible, so my heart's not set on M4, I may just go with a lightweight. The rifle will be a KISS setup, with standard CAR handguards at time of purchase. My question is, if i get the lightweight barrel, will i still be able to put M4 handguards on it or can i only put them on an M4 barrel? I have not had the change to inspect an AR and see how the handguards attach, so i don't know if they fit tight around the barrel and therefore would be loose on a skinnier barrel. Thanks, and apologies for my noobness in advance.

No personal experience but I've seen a couple of posts on the Glaciers, indicating that DPMSs claims are total BS, and the things are lousy. Me? I just stick with Colt stock/forend pieces on all my ARs.  Haunt the EE section of this site for awhile and you'll almost certainly find some shnook who thinks aftermarket fancy pants forends are the way to go, and is selling off his Colt factory pieces for about half what they cost at retail.
