for those of you with both versions do you guys have a preference for one or the other?

Do you mean the folding vs non folding or aluminum vs MOE?

If the choice is between these, the non-folding for sure.  I hate my folding trigger guard.  Ordered it by mistake.

I like the MOE guards.  I really dont see the need for anything else.

I'm guessing this is sarcasm.

I have a metal and a plastic Magpul trigger guard, for the money I can use the plastic and I don't think it'll break for what I use it for.

I just put one of the plastic ones on and one of the aluminum ones on and if I buy anymore it will be the plastic, to me they are just as sturdy at half the cost

Not at all.  The folding trigger guard does not span the gap like the non-folding.  It also has a little notch in it.

The last two trigger guards I have gotten from magpul have required a good bit of fitting. I do not like the hex screw that you have to put in the new ones. They have been a PITA to install.

I just installed one of the plastic ones.  I like it.  I had no problems with installation.

i have the alum. guard and the only issue i had was with the supplied pin. it would not go in to save my life, so i just used the factory pin and no problems.

I have an aluminum one on my Sabre. It is top quality and was easy to install.

I prefer my non folding and MOE compared to my folding version because the non folding feels more comfortable.

As said before the folding version have a little gap between the back end of the trigger guard and the grip which I could feel but not bad when wearing gloves.

I do the modification and I've been waiting for Rainier to get the standard ones in stock so I can modify them. Looks like I may do a batch for Bravo Company sometime this fall too.

So far I like the one that comes with the full miad.

It's a seamless, smooth transition from the grip to the trigger guard.

I've got the aluminum version, but would buy the MOE version if I had to again. They just weren't available at the time.

I bought the Aluminum triggerguard as well as the plastic one.  I went with the Aluminum one for my rifle and will be putting the plastic one on my sons rifle.  Both are good solid quality triggerguards.  IMHO, the plastic one will do just fine.

Thats the one I wanted but they haven't had them in stock for a while.

Anyway I've used both the aluminum and plastic non-folding magpul ones. I prefer the metal one but considering the plastic one is half the cost I'd recommend it. I'd personally go with metal when given the chance. In the future though I'll prob pick up the plastic ones if they are in stock.

I'm working on 50 of the modified ones right now.

I have both versions, the plastic one was easy to install, and looks cool with the 'magpul' logo on the bottom, so it went on my sons rifle.......

I would have liked the aluminum magpul one but it was far from fitting properly so I had to file, sand, buff, and paint it.  Sucks for 20 bux

Is that a homemade mod?  I've never see a Magpul TG that mounts with screws.

It appears to be a homemade unit. I do the modifications on the ones for Rainier and that's not how I do it. That is nice though.

Hmmm.  Interesting.

If I hadn't recently overcome my fear of snapping an "ear" (I went with the MIAD w/ integrated TG on the front strap for my first lower assembly, specifically due to this fear)....I'd be all over something like that.

Pretty cool.

Thanks. That's why I did it. I always hated driving in that pin, even though I never had broken a receiver.

I have installed the aluminum one, and I too was afraid of snapping the "ear" but it worked just fine. I would have liked to have the one with hex screws, but I would also worry about screw backing out over time. This is not something you'd install or take over frequently, so a roll pin is probably just fine.

As for the guard I also have the plastic one with MIAD insert, it's a seamless piece, but I keep wondering if I should have the metal one there, and then just use MOE grip instead. Has anyone had the MIAD grip+trigger guard insert combo break? I guess if you just happen to hit something against plastic guard, it could possibly break.

+1 to that. I just put a MOE guard on about a month ago and was sort of pissed that the freakin screw was so hard to get in correctly.

Maybe I just used a cheap hex key or something, but it was a PITA.
