K,
So I have a comp M and I want to put it on my BCM Middy. Last time I had the thing mounted it was on a LMT M4-ish upper and I was using a RAS2 so I was using a Larue setup for the "hump". Well, that's long gone and was thinking what mount would you use that's affordable? |

Quoted:
The QRPII and even the older QRP are usually pretty affordable as people are always wanting to upgrade their mounts. The "correct" mount for the CompMs are the old style QRP mounts with the flat rear mounting base, rather than the newer angled base. ~Augee Does the angled base just give you more MOA adjustment (like a 20MOA scope rail)? |

Heck no, it's just a cosmetic feature.
The mounting base under the body of the sight - on the right hand side of the ring in these photos: Late slanted base: http://cdn2.armslist.com/sites/armslist/uploads/posts/2012/09/23/575984_01_real_aimpoint_comp_2_with_qrp__640.jpg Early straight base: http://www.gunandgame.com/forums/attachments/powder-keg/25400d1253463087-aimpoint-comp-m-untitled-1.jpg Abosultely meaningless in any practical context - I just figured I'd interject with the proper "period" base for your vintage Aimpoint.
~Augee Ahhh I thought you meant angled on the bottom.....duh. |

Are the Aimpoint mounts marked in any way to identify them as legit (not airsoft)? Not that I'm aware of - but they're so readily available and generally so cheap - like MATECH BUIS - I don't think there's been a significant effort to "clone" them by airsoft manufacturers. Easier and cheaper for most airsofters to go on eBay and just buy the real thing, often sold below cost of even a cheap clone because of military "gray market," "pseudo-surplus," and "bottom of duffel bag" specials. ~Augee |
