hi, was wondering if it is better to mount the eotech 511 i have on my AR pistol and ar carbine all the way forward or all the way back on the flattops on them for the best aim/sight picture

It’s a matter of personal preference. Try it in different positions to see what fits you best. I mounted mine directly above the ejection port and was perfectly happy with that set up.

ETA: All the way back will not leave you enough room if you plan on running a BUIS.

First mount your BUIS all the way back on your flat top, then try different positions and find out what location you like better.

I prefer mounting my EOTech all the way forward on the flat top but with the front end of the optic just directly above the center of the delta ring.

I used a modified Larue Eotech mount and a LMT fixed backup sight to both fit onto a railed upper receiver together.  This was the best combination I could find, and it did not need a railed handguard.
