ok i have an ea lower with dpms lpk. my upper is a complete upper from spikes. operator upper. before attaching the upper after putting my lower together i noticed something with my function chk. in the military during your chk you were taught after pulling the trigger you would release the trigger and here a clunk. it is not present with or without the upper attached. what is this sound and how do i obtain it if it is not happening.
any info would be helpful. thanks |

You have the upper off have you visually inspected it?
Upper off. for this test hand loosely over hammer. 1. Push hammer into cocked position. - It should remain there. 2. Hand over hammer Safety on pull trigger - Hammer should remain in cocked position. 3. Hand over hammer safety off pull trigger - Hammer should move into hand. ( don't worry it ain't going to hurt you but it could hurt your lower if your hand ain't there. 4. Push hammer back down with trigger still pulled - Hammer should get caught and stay in cocked position. (If not there is an issue hammer face/triggerface/disconnector) 5. IF it passes #4. let go of trigger - Hammer should remain in cocked postion. If it falls there is a problem see above. 6. Hammer cocked - bang buttstock hit etc. make sure the hammer remains in the cocked postion. |
| That clunk sound is the hammer going from the disconnector to the sear. You have to charge the rifle again to hear the clunk. Or if you have the upper off, just cock the hammer back. Then release the trigger. If you're doing this with the upper off, make sure you're catching the hammer before it hits the frame/bolt catch. |
