My hunting 6.8 has the old school Yankee Hill aluminum free float handguard.  It's heavy.  Would lilke something lighter.  Don't really care about having any more rails on it or being able to attach tools off my workbench or hang pictures on it, but would like to keep the free float thing going.

What's out there fairly cheap?  My 11 year old son will probably be using it this fall.

It works pretty good as is, but the ffhg is just kinda heavy.

I had an old 66 Mustang for a time.

And one of the best things I ever did was set my then 12 yr old son down with a computer and a spending limit.

Told him to find the best rims he could for the money allotted.

He did it. Found a set of beauties.

Ended up having to sell the ole girl. But that little challenge got him hooked on cars.

Prior to that, he couldn't have cared less about anything on wheels.

See where I'm going with this? Or went?

Just an idea.

I'm using this in the M-Lok version which is OOS on an 18" - Seekins

12” Handguard:
Overall length 12.875”
8.0 ounces

Also using this MidWest on a 16"

Length 12
Outer Diameter 1.5
Dimensions 12" L x 1.5" W x
Weight 8.2 oz

The handguard diameter is small for my hands but I can work with it.

I can see the merit, but I would also like him to leave the basement, get a job, meet girls...

SLR Rifleworks would be my first choice. Lots of styles, light weight, good prices.

Also really easy to install.

Aero Precision Quantum handguards. Not sure if you're looking for KeyMod or M-Lok, but they offer both

i put an Leapers UTG Pro on mine, for under $100 it fits and looks great. it's a nice lightweight handguard and it's very sturdy too.
