Thanks for the info

is this also why the second round is going straite and not up into the chamber?

Is the second round on the left side?

Is it doing it every other round for the entire mag?

When it started doing it on my M4gery, it turned out that the rounds were hitting an exposed lip on the barrel extension and not feeding from the left.

I'd say to check and see if your feedramps are nice and smooth before you start diving into something more expensive.

Just my $.02,

Chances are, there is a lip between the barrel extension and the upper receiver. The way I fixed mine is with a dremel. Just be sure to go slow, and your rifle should be in working order in no time.

Before your break out the power tools,
You are using new USGI mags and not some shitty USA/clone knock-off's?

and have you performed a short stroke check?

I am using USGI mags as well as Colt mags both 20 and 30 rounders

I just replaced the gas tube and gave it a good cleaning and am going to take it the range tomorrow

already answered your IM but I'll post here for others reading this thread

drop a round in the chamber, drop the bolt with the muzzle in a safe direction, press on the bolt catch, fire the round with the rifle in minimum contact with the body (unrestrained firing, as it says in the milspec) it's best if you fire with only one hand on the pistol grip and your finger on the bolt catch. repeat several times

the bolt should lock back each time.

this pic started out as a joke (note Nomex gloves and shooter facing away) due to the problems we were having with this BFI build but it shows the basics.

Makes me wonder if the FSB is lined up correctly with the gas-port

I'm not sure how to fix something like that if it's the case.

are the carrier key screws tight?

can you blow through the carrier key?

gas tube rull pin present?

squirt some aerosol down the gas tube and see if it comes out in the bore, short strokes are covered in the FAQ but it's harder to search now that the Subject List disappeared.
