I have a Bushmaster .308.  I took it hunting this afternoon.  When I got ready to leave the woods, I attempted to clear the weapon.  The  charging handle comes back about 1/4" and stops.  The forward assist is NOT interfering with the bolt.  The rifle is clean, the ammo is Winchester-new and clean.  I'm hesitant to beat on the weapon-the live round thing.  Any suggestions???
Thanks
Tom

Collapse the stock if it does, pull charging handle back the quarter inch it will then at the same time pull back on the handle while slaming the butt of the rifle against a table or the ground. preferably a table because the muzzle should be above your head, just be carefull as not to put anypart of your body near the muzzle while doing this!!! its probably just a tight chamber and being new. go shoot the shit out of it to break it in. and i dont mean rapid fire.

I'll give it a shot -LOL-  I haven't had a jam like this in 40 years.  The last time was in an up close firefight and I never did clear the M-16.  I kept the bolt and bent the barrel (after the firefight), tossed it, and carried the trusty 14 for another tour and a half.

Wyn not just shoot it first, then try to beat the case out? Might come out by itself you.

Try breaking open the receivers to see if there is something in there binding things up.
